International Orders - Required Fields for CustomsUpdated 7 months ago

To meet international shipping and carrier requirements, both the phone number and email address for customers placing cross-border orders are required.

Capturing this information will allow us to:

Reduce International Tansit Issues: The carrier being able to have direct contact with the end customer can help them proactively address any in-tranist challenges quickly, reducing unnecessary delays.

Facilitate DDU shipments: If an order is marked as DDU (delivered, duty unpaid), our carriers will need to reach out to the customers to collect unpaid duties and taxes. A phone number is required.

Instructions for brands on Shopify:

For higher-level Shopify plans you may have the ability to keep phone numbers optional for domestic orders while requiring them for international. Reach out to Shopify support for possible workarounds.

Otherwise, to make phone numbers required for all customers:

1. From the Shopify Admin Portal, open up settings by clicking the gear icon on the bottom left of the screen and choose "Checkout"

2. Under "Customer Contact Method" choose "Email"

3. Under "Customer Information: Shipping Address Phone Number" choose "Required", then click "Save" in the top right corner to save changes.

This will ensure that both an email address AND phone number are captured at checkout.
