How to Find & Review Backordered OrdersUpdated 21 minutes ago
Orders are placed on backorder when one or more SKUs in the order are out of stock. These orders will not ship until the missing items are replenished or the order is set to Allow Partial Shipping.
In addition to reviewing Order Holds daily, all Backorders should also be reviewed regularly to ensure timely fulfillment and proactive communication with customers.
Use these steps to locate and review all backordered items in ShipHero. This process follows the same flow as checking for address or other order holds.
Step 1: Navigate to Orders
From your ShipHero dashboard, go to the Orders section in the main menu.
Click the drop-down arrow and select Manage Orders.

Step 2. Update Order Filters
Filter your results using the following criteria:
Order date: We recommend a date range at least 6 months back to today's date.
Fulfillment Status: Unfulfilled
Ready to Ship: No
On Backorder: Yes
These filters narrow your view to only orders currently waiting on backordered goods.

Optional: Search by SKU
If you want to find specific items or see how many orders are impacted by a backordered SKU:
Scroll down the sidebar until you find Filter by SKU.
Enter the SKU you want to search.
Check both boxes:
✅ Partial Match
✅ Include Kit Components
This helps you see all related backordered items, even if they’re part of a bundled kit.
Step 5: Review Affected Orders and Take Steps to Resolve
Review the filtered list and note affected orders. You can identify which products are backordered by checking the Total Backordered column on each order number page.

2. Determine the best course of action:
- Wait until items on backorder come in stock before shipping out (the entirety of the order willl be on hold until it does)
- Allow partial shipment of in-stock items in order
- Edit or cancel the order
- Reach out to your Account Manager to brainstorm different solutions.
